Life brings the inevitable ups and downs, challenges, difficulties whatever term you may use to describe them. And each of us finds out, if we have made the effort to look, that we have an individualized theme of challenges or “lessons” that keep recurring in our lives. There are times when these challenges may feel like they are too much. We feel we already have enough on our plates and then more comes our way. We may feel overwhelmed, defeated, angered, mad at the world, etc, or all of the above. When I feel that way, during my wiser times, I have often used a classic meditation of the white light. Many spiritual teachers recommend it strongly as being very effective. It is also very easy to do and doesn’t take much time. You really can do it quite well in as little as 3 to 5 minutes, however a suggested time is about 15 minutes, to include sufficient time to release all your worries and concerns as you begin. What you do is to pick a time when you will not be disturbed, such as when waking up in the morning, last thing before you go to sleep at night, returning home from work before anyone else gets there, or whatever is the best time for you. You start by sitting in a relaxing chair or lying on a coach or bed, closing your eyes and taking 3 deep, slow, long breathes. Then imagine a brilliant, beautiful, soothing, comforting white light forming over your head. Allow this light to slowly come into your body through the top of your head, move down gradually until your entire body is filled with it. Most will feel peaceful, relieved, safe and wonderful as this happens. Acknowledge to yourself that you are peaceful, powerful, safe, secure and have all the answers to your problems and challenges within. You could stay here and continue a longer meditation or you could then go on to see the white light forming a protective bubble around you. Gradually open your eyes and come back. Doing this consistently has been shown to bring about wonderful things.
When I did this meditation today, I noticed an automatic smile come over my face. I felt so good about myself, no one could take it away. It also occurred to me that some people might want to substitute their own Deity or spiritual figure such as God, Goddess, Angels, Buddha, Allah, or whoever. For others who do not consider themselves spiritual, perhaps they can substitute an image that feels really good to them.
So whatever your problems or challenges, why not try this simple exercise and see what happens. And if you do it for 30 days, please let me know what wonderful things came to you after that.
I started my 30 days yesterday, August 9 and so will report back here on what wonderful things come to me by September 9. SMILE BROADLY TODAY!
